Organizations “Language of Art” and “Art Town” organize the project “Tbilisi and Tbilisians” by financial support of Tbilisi City Hall. The project aims to have portraits and sculptures of famous culture and art workers created by young Georgian painters. 26 famous people were selected through online survey in social networks and works on portraits has lasted for a month. In the framework of the project a movie was shot where the working process and interesting episodes from life of famous people is covered. Besides, a catalogue was published, where artworks of young painters as well as poetries and quotes of famous people are presented.
On October 2-5, 2013 an art exhibition will be held at Shalva Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts, where portraits and sculptures dedicated to the Day of Tbilisi city known as Tbilisoba will be presented.
“The project was born in order to create portraits of famous people and get closely acquainted with them. Working on portraits gave us an opportunity to learn better their artworks. Portrait is an interesting genre and process can be divided in two parts. In the first part painter studies features of a hero and achieves physical similarity. The second is an artistic part, which entails a reflection of a hero’s spirit in an artwork by a painter. The project connected generations and contributed its modest share to the country’s cultural life”, stated a chairman of “Language of Art’, Giorgi Kukhalashvili.
The project started on September 7 and will last until the end of October.
